Counseling for families and individuals

ABOUT ELLEN BARMAN

Ellen Barman is a licensed independent clinical social worker who works collaboratively with clients in an empathetic, client centered hopeful environment.  She respects the client’s strengths, and has a special interest in helping them become aware of these strengths as they  build their self esteem, find self acceptance and understanding that come with change.

Offering a calm accepting haven, Ellen enjoys building a relationship and trust to support and work with those who battle with ADHD, anxiety/depression and anger that often appear during life stage changes.

In addition, for over 20 years she has worked with  families, adults and adolescents who have developmental disabilities, learning disabilities, cerebral palsy and other disorders that have impacted their lives and their families.

Her work with individuals with disabilities and their families began while working in the field making home visits in order to assess the needs of individuals and families who asked for support. Some of the support needed included applying for and learning how to interview for personal care attendants, improving social skills, and running a household for the first time.   Through this experience, Ellen shared with these individuals and families the frustration of living with a disability. She witnessed the chronic grief, anxiety and depression that accompanied their struggle.  It was at this point that Ellen decided to further her education by getting her masters in social work and to earn her LICSW (licensed independent clinical social work) to better serve the needs of her clients.

In her spare time Ellen enjoys reading, bicycling, walking, traveling and visiting and playing with her grandchildren.
